Awards 2025
Awards 2025
And the 2025 awards go to…
For his contribution to the Sector and Wider Community: Ben Toogood, University of Sussex.
“Ben has contributed significantly to both the London and SE Regional membership, HEBCoN and the broader sector through his proactive approach to sharing not only his own personal and professional experiences and best practice methodology but also in supporting and mentoring others to implement best practice within their own university settings”
For their innovation/breakthrough in developing an approach to Business Continuity Insurance: Durham University
The development of an in-house incident reporting system has been a pivotal advancement in the Business Continuity Management (BCM) framework. This custom-built system allows for real-time reporting and tracking of all incidents and near misses across the university, providing a centralised platform for capturing detailed information on various events. This system also captures business continuity impacts, and the detail of the solutions that were deployed.
For their Incident Response: University of Oxford
The University of Oxford, declared a major incident and activated its Gold-Silver-Bronze framework in accordance with its Major Incident Plan in May 2024 when an encampment was set up illegally on University land. Once the University decided that the encampment was causing disruption and offence to others, legal advice was taken and notice served to the occupants. The encampment was voluntarily removed by the protesters just ahead of the deadline set by the University. Major incident protocols remain in operation and have frequently facilitated smooth cooperation with emergency services and local government at the appropriate levels
For the Newcomer Award: Matthew Tulett, University of Cambridge
“Matt joined the University in 2024 he is a keen member of the Central Region, regularly attending regional meetings and contributing to the conversation, adding additional points or questions that have furthered the conversation. He has also been able to contribute his emergency services background, which has added an additional dimension that other members have less familiarity with. Matt also shared information on how the university was approaching graduation ceremonies, as they were one of the first in the Central Region to hold ceremonies with protests on campus, and followed up at a subsequent meeting with an update and lessons learned after the event to try and help other institutions that were heading into graduation periods“
For her contribution to the HEBCoN and Wider Community: Selina Woolcott, University of Glasgow
“Selina has been a member of HEBCoN for years and has been a regular attendee at regional events and conferences, as well as a frequent contributor on JISC. She always participates in group discussions, providing valuable insights. She is always willing to share best practice and lessons learned, and over the years has made countless contributions to HEBCoN. She will be retiring at the end of March”
